SUMMARY: According to the fairy tales Layla read as a
child, she’d stepped into one, but her perfect world has a price, and she may
end up paying with her life…. Following three years of loneliness,
twenty-one-year-old Layla Callaway suddenly has the extended family she always
wanted, a beautiful home in Clatsop County, Oregon, her own prince charming,
and the ability to perform astonishing magic. All should be well as she gets
acquainted with the powers she never knew she had and the coven she never knew
she belonged to, but she continues to mourn the circumstances that got her
there while struggling to adjust.
Thankfully Layla has her prince charming
– Quin Kavanagh – a gorgeous member of her coven who goes out of his way to
take care of her. His gentle hands lead her everywhere, including realms of
pleasure previously unknown, so when she learns of his playboy past and a
hurtful secret he’s been keeping, her shaky world threatens to crumble. And it couldn’t happen at a worse time. Danger grows nearer. Obsessed with Layla’s ethereal
beauty and immense power, Agro eliminates leads on his way to Oregon. But
there’s a stranger lurking much closer to Layla’s new home, and he’s closing in
quicker than anyone knows. Leaving a
trail of tragedy in their wakes, both wizards crave what Layla has, and they’ll
stop at nothing to get it.
REVIEW:
I received this book from B.C
for giving her the name of one of her characters. I was chosen from an online
contest her facebook fan page and was absolutely thrilled when she chose my
choice of Selena. And when I first read the book I actually laughed and thought
she’s my character, I then immediately fell in love with Alana so much so that
she was MY little girl, just like her mother is my character. Now this all
aside, this book is AMAZING! Burgess has outdone herself with this book and I
rank her up there with the likes of J.K. Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, and Michael
Scott. I can easily picture her books on film.
In this story it picks up
where we left off in Descension, Layla found her family, and has discovered she
is a witch. She also has met Quin, who I have to say I adore! He is so loving
and attentive and oh gosh just everything a woman would want in a man. I can
honestly admit I am addicted to Quin.
Gah, I just want to tell you
parts of the book I loved but I hate spoilers.
I will say that the plot in this book continued with the base story of
Agro searching for Layla. I HATE AGRO! But it’s not just Agro that I hated, I
hate his right hand man Farriss and ooooooo I do so love what happens there. *rubs
hands together evilly*
B.C. Burgess has created
characters that are not only loving, but so human that you completely forget
your reading a book. You are LIVING their life.
I adore Layla, love Quin and all the family, Finley I am reserving
judgement on, I can’t decide if he is bad to the bone or just misunderstood, and
we know how I feel about Agro. As for my character Selena and her beautiful
loveable cuddly little Alana all I can say is I want more.
I can assure you that this
book is as good as the first if not better.
I loved how much time we get to spend learning about the magic that she
is born with. I also love what comes out about Finley and no I will not spill
the beans here but trust me its good! I truly do believe that B.C. Burgess has
created a series which will stand the test of time. And will most likely wind
up being a fabulous movie.
Well worth the read and I
plan on purchasing the Hardcover series when she has it completed so that tells
you something about how much I loved the first two books in this wonderful
series.
Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me for winning her contest on Facebook.
Love it!!! Thank you so much, Christina!
