Summary
"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. My name is
April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids have overrun my
world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in
shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is
full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to
the next Vegas sunrise..."
In a post-apocalyptic world, a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated vampires. April is a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after the outbreak. She has become a ferocious vampire killer and after her family is abducted, she goes searching for them. What she finds is a new breed of vampire, unlike any she has seen before. Unsure of whom she can trust, she discovers that her view of the world is not as black and white as she once thought, and she's willing to bend the rules to rescue her family. But in trying to save them, she may only succeed in bringing her fragile world crashing down around her.

Review
Sometimes the
lines between Good and Evil become so blurred that you can’t be sure which side
is which. And then you have to ask yourself “what would I do in the case of a
world torn apart.”, you may be surprised to find that you are standing right
where April is and doing exactly as she does. This is a world where feral
vampires roam the streets at night and a different breed of vampire exists
which can survive on human food. This is
the nightmare you live along with April on her search for her mother and young
brother.
Purdy had creatively
developed a world that literally sucks you in! She has created a world so
intense that you will cry. The descriptions she used of the ruined city allowed
you to be there. The ruined Vegas strip
and empty Casinos were described with such preciseness that I could picture
them clearly. The story moved along at such a pace that it will keep you
turning the pages.
Her character
creation is amazing, you can see, hear, feel and sometimes even taste exactly
what her characters are at that precise moment. The bond you the reader forms
with April is intense, you will cry out, scream out, and bemoan the stupidity
of heroines long after you finish this book. And long after you are done
reading this book you will be thinking about what is going to happen next.
The book ends…
But it doesn’t truly end since the next installment is already out. A book by
the name of Disarming, and one that I IMMEDIATELY grabbed up and started
reading because I just had to know what was going to happen next with April and
Rye. I’m quite sure that you too will rush out and grab the next installment in
The Reign of Blood series. And trust me this book was a fun read, not so much
humor as page gripping action and fear and worry for April and her family.
Trust me you won’t go wrong by purchasing this series!
