Polyamory and Pregnancy Tour/Review

Before I move on to the Review of this book I want you to know exactly what this book was about.

Polyamory can be defined as the practice of having or desire to have more than on sexual/romantic/intimate relationship at one time, in an honest and ethical manner. A person in a polyamorous relationship might be part of a group marriage, a swinger, a single person with several SO's (Significant Others), dating a person in a married couple, in an open marriage or any combination of the above. The central focus of polyamory is that these relationships occur with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved.

Poly-folk face some unique challenges in a culture designed for monogamy. Polyamory on Purpose was started first as a blog and now as a book series to discuss some of the daily-life challenges and ways to navigate them.
Now On to the book and my review!

Of Gaea Tour and Review

Her choice will change the world.

She hated the wheelchair. Hated the way it made her feel less than what she was. Most of all she hated not being able to do all the things she used to. Ari had been a track and field star, an archery champion and an Eskrima pro. Now she was confined to a wheelchair slowly dying inside from its restraints.

Medical science wasn’t working. The tests, the drugs, the therapies were all useless and a waste of time. She was tired of wasting her time; she was tired of failure. It was time to look away from the obvious and try something unconventional.

Nothing was ever free and that included miracles. Abruptly, Ari finds herself tangled in a web of lies, questioning everything she’s ever known as truth. Never had she believed she’d be thrown headfirst into a world of good and evil, magic and Gods.

Trapped in the middle of a war she had never known existed both parties demanded her allegiance. Ari was a catalyst that could change all the rules of the Earth. But when the time comes to make a choice will she be strong enough to know right from wrong?

Blue Hearts of Mars

Retta Heikkinen knows the unspoken rule of society: love between androids and humans is forbidden. A simple enough edict until Hemingway Koskinen spends an evening charming her with his intense gaze, bewitching smile, and sparkling conversation that hints at so much more than the usual obsessions of high school boys. Rules were meant to be cast aside, especially when love beckons.

If only it were as simple as being in love.

Trouble is brewing, not just for Hemingway--for all androids. Secrets have been kept, lies propagated, and Retta soon discovers that a frightening future awaits thousands of androids if she doesn’t do something to stop it. Worse yet, she will lose the one love she’s ever endangered herself for: Hemingway.

IXEOS Tour and Review

Tour Schedule

Ixeos

The McClellands are enjoying a lazy summer vacation at the beach when they are lured from our world into Ixeos, an alternate Earth. Finding themselves lost in a maze of tunnels under Paris and surrounded by strangers, they discover that they have been brought to Ixeos for one purpose:  to take the planet back from humanoid aliens who have claimed it. With the aid of the tunnels and a mysterious man named Landon, the teens travel the world seeking the key that will allow them to free Darian, the long-imprisoned rebel leader. But the aliens aren't the only problem on Ixeos -- the McClellands have to deal with brutal gangs, desperate junkies, and a world without power, where all the technology is owned by the aliens, and where most of the population has been killed or enslaved. The worst part? There's no way home.

This book is about IXEOS. Ixeos is an alternate universe it mimics Earth in all ways except for one, on Ixeos Aliens arrived and assimilated into the world and then waged an attacked on the planet killing off almost everyone and enslaving as many survivors as they could.

Jennings sucks you into this world quickly. And we form very strong attachments with certain characters in the story. We feel sorry for the children pulled through to this world from ours, their separation from their families and the abrupt way they are forced into the world of Ixeos.  I love the intricate little bonds that are formed within the groups.

I also truly have to applaud the author for his look into the WHY of each person being pulled into Ixeos. Each person pulled into this world has some talent, some ability that the people of Ixeos need. In the book Destiny is written and each person has their own. Regardless of where they are from or what they thought of themselves in Ixeos their destinies are pre-ordained.

I enjoyed this book and I can truly say the action kept me up late into the night. I panicked when the characters faced adversity. I worried when one was injured or lost. This type of bond with characters is rare. So I have to say I must recommend this book to any science fiction lovers. Or for that matter anyone who likes a good action adventure or just a good read.

This book is something I gave my son who is 10 to read. So while it is YA, I think that if your child is able to read at this level then let them give it a read. My son reads at a 7th grade reading level if that helps you gauge.

All in all, a very enjoyable read and one I gladly give 4.5 stars to.

Marty chewed his crusty bread thoughtfully. “They’ve got a pretty amazing set up down here,” he observed. “Fresh food, the air is okay, there’s apparently water for drinking and washing and bathing. Dorms, a library… It’s pretty sweet!”
“Sweet?” Clay asked in amazement. “We’re two hundred feet underground, apparently recruited to fight some kind of alien serial killers, and we can’t get home! How is that sweet?”
Neahle laid a hand on his wrist just above his tattoo. Her thumb rubbed the spot. “We’ll be okay, Clay,” she said quietly. “We just need to get our bearings. You know. Figure out what we’re supposed to do.”
Clay put his hand over hers for a minute, then pulled his arm away. “How do we know that what these people are saying is true? It’s nuts! And this Landon — who’s he supposed to be? How come he can leave here, and we can’t?”
“We’ll find more out tomorrow,” Marty said. “But we were chosen, dude. There’s something we can do here to make a difference in this rebellion thing, and that makes us special. I mean, Landon chose us for a reason, right?”
“Because we were the only ones stupid enough to follow the ducks…” Clay muttered, taking a large swallow of water from his mug.

Author Jennings Wright

Born and raised in Florida, Jennings spent her early years reading anything she could get her hands on, when she wasn't spending time in and on the water. She won a prize in the 6th grade for her science fiction stories.

Jennings attended the University of Tampa, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science, and almost enough credits for B.A.s in both English and History. She attended graduate school at the University of West Florida, studying Psychology. She spent time over the years doing various kinds of business writing, editing, and teaching writing, but mostly having and raising her family, homeschooling her children, owning and running a business with her husband, and starting a non-profit.

Thanks to a crazy idea called NaNoWriMo Jennings got back into creative writing in 2011 and hasn't stopped since. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband, also a business owner and writer, and two children, and travels extensively with her family, and her non-profit in Uganda.

A Minor Magic Tour and Review

Title: A MINOR MAGIC
Author: Justin Macumber
Genre: Young Adult

Tour Host: Lady Amber's Tours

Over the course of a single night, mystical fires tore through the sky and reduced most of Earth to ash. Ten years later magical fire burns again, but this time it’s in the hands of a young girl named Skylar. Exiled from her adoptive home, Skylar must now struggle through ruined lands and religious zealots who believe she’s an agent of the Devil. An even greater threat exists in the form of shadowy sorcerers from another world who covet her blood. Along her journey, she meets a motley band of outcasts who not only know the secret of what happened to Earth, but also of Skylar’s true origin. Will Skylar be able to accept this fantastical truth? But more importantly, can her powers and raging heart be tamed in time to stop those who once burned the world and now seek total domination?
This is such a unique twist on Magic! It begins with Skylar suddenly killing her much loved dog, purely by accident, he burst into flames when she put her hands up to defend herself from him.  From this simple beginning we have an entire story of magic and mayhem and adventure.

I loved that this YA book has a female as the main character. She gets to learn about how strong she really is, and this is such an important thing for young girls to learn. I also loved how there was a little romantic interest in the form of Nathan, but that it wasn't the main goal of Skylar's life. Something I think that many young girls need to realize.

The characters themselves are interesting. Skylar is a young girl who lives in a world that has been torn apart. As she travels from the home she has known since her mother's death, she meets some very interesting characters. Nathan, Bill, Lyara and Jack. And the one who caused all of this destruction... well I won't go into their name but suffice it to say this is one heck of a world.

The world that Justin R. Macumber created is one I personally do not ever want to see. A world full of dust and destruction where fire burned the Earth. A world where violence is an every day occurrence, and life is moving from place to place trying to stay alive. A world where there are Wylds growing where you dare not enter and blossoming Magic.

I can say I recommend this book to anyone interested in a YA book with good values and good morals for young girls and boys alike. I give this book 4.5 stars.

Justin R. Macumber is the author of HAYWIRE and A MINOR MAGIC. When not hard at work on his next story he hosts the popular Dead Robots' Society podcast, which is a podcast made by writers for writers. He and his lovely wife live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex along with a rampaging pack of dogs and cats that they think of as their  children. He is also a co-host on The Hollywood Outsider, a weekly podcast about movies and television. Currently he is working on two novels - the horror story STILL WATER, and the sequel to A MINOR MAGIC entitled A BROKEN MAGIC.

Skylar's eyes filled with a flickering blue light as ghostly flames jetted from her palms, and her screams were lost over the roaring of the blaze. Instinctively, she shook her hands, slapped them against her legs, and then clapped them together to try and extinguish the fire. As her hands touched, the flames vanished. To her astonishment her skin wasn't burned. It wasn't even warm. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for Buster. The dog was a smoking ruin at her feet, one more pile of burnt remains in a world already covered in ash. Her heart broke as she stared down at him. Oh god, she thought. What's happened? What have I done?
"Oh my Lord, girl," a man said behind her. "What did you do?"
Skylar whirled around, her eyes widening in guilt even though she didn't understand what had happened, or how. "Henry, he jumped at me! I don't know why he did it, and I tried to stop him, but..." She fell silent, her thoughts too scrambled to know what more to say. Buster was a dog she'd loved and cared for ever since coming to live on the farm years ago, and without warning, he had attacked her. When she'd held her hands up to ward him off, blue fire had erupted from them and consumed him as though it was a living, ravenous thing. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before, and she couldn't rightly explain what she didn't understand.
